Revamping Our Potato Planters: Essential Fixes and Upgrades!

5.17pm - Thursday 6th March 2025 13,481

🚜 BIG REPAIRS on Our Potato Planters! Prepping for Planting Season 🌱

It’s time to get our potato planters ready for the upcoming season, and that means a LOT of shop work! We’re bringing in our potato planters to swap out parts, upgrade components, and make sure everything is running smoothly before we hit the fields. This process takes weeks of work, but it’s all necessary to avoid breakdowns once planting starts!

🔥 What’s happening in today’s video?

✅ Bringing the Planters Into the Shop – We’re using our John Deere 8370RT to move the planters in. The shop is getting crammed, and we’re realizing more than ever that we need a bigger workspace!

✅ Stripping Down the Old Planter – We have an older planter that we’re planning to sell, but before we do, we’re stripping it for spare parts that we’ll use on the newer planter. This means removing pumps, tanks, depth wheels, and fertilizer components—basically anything that can be reused or upgraded.

✅ Installing John Blue Pumps & Fertilizer System – One of the biggest upgrades we’re making is installing John Blue fertilizer pumps. These pumps are essential for getting the right nutrients to our potatoes as they’re planted. We’re also making sure our fertilizer delivery system is properly connected and ready to go.

✅ Depth Wheel & Row Unit Adjustments – The depth wheels on the planter help us control seed depth, which is crucial for getting an even crop stand. We’re checking, adjusting, and replacing worn-out parts to ensure everything runs smoothly in the field.

✅ Navigating a Tight Shop & Frozen Mud Struggles – Between moving equipment, dealing with frozen chunks of mud, and dodging tools, the shop is getting tight! We’re making it work, but a bigger shop is definitely on the wish list.

This is just the beginning of a long process to get our planters field-ready. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be making more repairs, running tests, and fine-tuning everything before planting kicks off. Stay tuned for more updates!
