Good morning everybody! We’re kicking off another beautiful day on the farm, unloading the first trucks of potatoes into the cellar. The potatoes are looking great and the sizer is doing an awesome job keeping out rocks and dirt — these spuds are clean! I take you inside the cellar to check the temperature and explain how we slowly bring it down each day until we reach that perfect 35–40°F to keep the potatoes fresh all winter long.
Out in the field, I test the chisel plow against the disc on the potato ground. The results surprised me — the chisel went deeper, broke up the truck tracks better, and left the field almost as smooth as the disc. I go over the pros and cons of both and share which one I’ll be using from now on.
Later, I service the tractor — oil, filters, and all — and head out to start disking corn ground for next year’s potato crop. Those corn stalks are tough, but the Lemken disc chews through them like a champ, turning rough ground into smooth soil. Of course, we run into a few hiccups with a broken suspension pin, but that’s just part of farming.
The day wraps up with an Idaho sunset and an update on the crew finishing up the cellar. Farming never slows down — when things break, we fix them and keep moving.
