1st Day of Wheat Swathing 2021!!! Montana Farm Harvest
In today's video we are swathing our Winter Wheat because this is the first step for our 2021 wheat harvest. I ride around with my Uncle Chris. I enjoy watching this MacDon swather cut the wheat and gather it into windrows so our combines can pick it up at harvest. We usually start swathing the wheat about one week ahead of the combines so that we can stay ahead of them. You will also see what Saw Flies look like because they are hanging out on the window of the swather. The Saw Flies burrow into the stems of the wheat making it fall to the ground. That is the reason we swath the wheat and not straight cut it with our combines. My Uncle Chris explains all the ins and outs of the swather. We see some beautiful flowers at the edge of the field. Today we don't see any little animals or birds and probably because it is about 96 degrees F here. It is also very dry. I hope you enjoy my video and thank you so much for watching! I really appreciate it.

My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am a 17-year-old 4th generation Montana farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.
