Farming Britain #3 - πŸ™ Pick up your dog pooπŸ• πŸ’© - Blind Bulls, Beaver Fever & rare farming footage

11.40am - Friday 29th March 2024 6,988

In Farming Britain #3 we travel from Cornwall to the Cairngorms National Park. Ex Love Island contestant, Ollie Williams is getting stuck in and learning how to farm his family's estate. One of the big issues we touch on is the disease neosporosis, which cows pick up from dog poo left on the grazing fields. Ollie's farm manager Matt Burgess tells us they lost more than 30 animals last year because of the parasite carried in the dog poo. Meanwhile, in Scotland, we are on a road-trip in Sutherland, where Niall Rowantree is reinvigorating a croft he bought 12 months ago. Since we filmed him in August 2023, he has acquired Viking cattle – Shetlands – and a blind bull called Gregor. Further south, in the Cairngorms National Park, locals including Ruaraidh Ormiston say they have had enough of being ignored, and the introduction of beavers down river is the last straw. Plus we hear about a bygone age when farmers hand-clipped sheep in the Scottish Hills. Farmer John Macpherson has footage from his old VHS video camera from a busy day shearing 800 sheep on what is now BrewDog's Kinrara estate.
