The free wood chips havebeen great. There are certain low-traffic areas that get weedy but all in all the roads stay pretty clear without having put any kind of fabric down first.

I figure worst case scenario they breakdown over time, I scrape up the old stuff and put down new and potentially use the compasted chips. In June 2015 I don't feel I know enough about the long term effect of this decision, but so far I'm happy.
