Winter Chickens Outside Coop

10.33am - Monday 30th March 2015 9,608

Even though the ground outside isn't that great I still feel it is important to give the birds an outside run in the winter. There's no grass growing in the winter in New England so being "pasture raised" is impossible.

Instead I have done my best to bring grass to the birds in the form of hay instead of bringing the birds to the grass. I eagerly await the time when I can get the birds back out on pasture.

I have been very happy with this winter set-up. The deep bedding has worked great, the indoor/outdoor space has been good for the birds, and over all health and production has been really good.

I'm typing this at the end of March and I got 86.5% efficiency from my birds yesterday for eggs.

Hope this helps. For more useful farming informaiton please visit my website http://farmmarketingsolutions.com
