When looking for any kind of farm land, if you're just starting out, start small and start with minimal investment. Nick and Nicole started in just a raised bed and grew from there.
Because the urban farming model can be so mobile and the plots so (relatively) small you can move if need be. As you learn more about what you want in a piece of land and a land owner relationship you will find that you may not love the place you're on and you're going to have to move. That's ok. I moved my entire farm mid season one year because of a good opportunity.
You can read about how to find farm land all day and even work with some decent agencies but in the end it takes time to become a good farmer. As you gain experience and an eye for what makes good farm land your definitions and motivations will change. Try and land that forever piece of land from the beginning but be open to having other plots to build your urban farm quilt.
