I have gotten myself into trouble in the past by just doing things on feel. Not having a way to measure progress or to have logical reasoning behind what you're doing on farm can often work against you. It's not always immediate and it's not always a problem, but if the tools exist why not use them?

Why take a forage test when nature provides? Because while we are mimicking a natural system, we are still controlling part or all of that system. Or at least trying to. The problem with humans is that we don't know as much about nature as nature does and we're not going to get it perfect.

We're also tailoring that system to fit our needs, like grazing cattle or making hay. In making those adjustments we want to make sure we're doing the right thing.

I know I know, it was a little more of a dry video today. While not all of my videos are going to be goofy I feel it's important to get the comprehensive picture out there for farmers who are working in the field and really need the information resources.
