Data-driven decision making is what I'm striving for on my farm. Sounds cold and dry right? It's not, it's actually a lot of fun. I also find it less stressful because then I'm not guessing, I know the answer because it is right in front of me.
Troy has taught me with this video that having a map of my farm can be a valuable tool for grazing management and land planning.
You can either use Google Maps or contact your local conservation district to track down maps. Whatever you use, I suggest printing them out. It's easier to share that way, good to take out in the field, and nothing beats an old-fashioned piece of paper.
I've actually done some research (again, thanks to Troy) and my local conservation district offers several different kinds of maps for my farm, which is great because if I want I can address more than one issue. But for now, I must stay focused!
