Running A 21st Century Farmstead

11.00pm - Saturday 12th October 2019 205,311

I hope you guys like Dad's attempt at an intro, I think he had a little too much fun making it.

Soybeans are getting very close to being harvested. We wanted to make sure our beans were not ready yet, so the first thing we do is in this video is crop scout our soybeans. Once we get to the field, Daddy Cornstar teaches us some things about soybean harvesting and I also give my two cents. No need to worry, we will not be combing soybeans with the 2001 Case IH 2388 combine in this video. They have another week of drying to do before they are ready.

Once we get back to the main farm, I grab the tele handler from the big machine shed, and lift Dad to the roof of the 50,000 bushel bin. Once on the roof, Dad puts a new bearing on the bottom end of the roof auger. While he was working on that, I grabbed the Case 1840 skid loader and moved an auger from the old auger graveyard up to the bin site. Once I got that moved, I grabbed the 2005 Bobcat T-190 and started pushing the rotten bean pile to a new location.

After Dad and I grabbed lunch, I run off to the parts store to get 5 gallons of 90 weight gear oil. When I get back, Dad is done with his "after lunch break" and he gives you a little bit of daily advice. After Dad's advice, I explain the bin set-up. I apologize if it is hard to follow. Dad and I messed with auger configurations for a few hours and finally got the combination we needed.

While Dad and I were working on augers, Cooper was in the big machine shed cleaning the floor, setting up bulkheads, and installing support cables. We are getting closer to harvest every day and once the weather drys up, we will be running full steam ahead.

Thank you for watching!
