Grain hauling season is coming to an end. We have 20,000 bushels of corn left to sell and then we will be completely empty. The first two bins we decided to clean out have had corn in them for two years. We had to use the grain vac to clean them out as they do not have floor sweeps in them. These bins are becoming dangerous and from this point on will be retired.
While I was unloading corn, the grain cart on the Case decided to leak corn on the ground and I said enough is enough. We finally fixed the spout on the older Brent 674 grain cart. While we were fixing that, we noticed two other issues on the grain cart. The auger swing arm and the hitch were both cracked. Fortunately, the cart on the John Deere was still fully functional so we able to continue moving corn, just not as fast.
Dad ordered the new part and picked up a new hitch for the grain cart. The hitch did not fit the grain cart but I was able to get the cracked swing arm off and ground down so it is ready to be welded. I wanted to hire a professional to do the welding as it could be a very costly accident if my weld did not hold.
While we were waiting on parts to come in, I had plenty of farm financial work to do for expense tracking. Farm book work is not always the most fun, but it is a job that needs to be done. Agribusiness keeps our farm alive. I had to take a break from the books, so I filled Brad with a load of corn to go to the ethanol plant and then refilled the carts.
